Our Campaigns

Environment

Campaign Status: Ongoing

BC Youth Council’s Environment campaign is focused on this year’s goal of reducing Single-Use Plastics in the community. Items such as straws, utensils, and plastic grocery bags contribute to millions of dollars worth of environmental damage, and are some of the main products they target. They do so by raising social media awareness, petitioning for the implementation of by-laws, working with local businesses, and organizing monthly park cleanups.

LGBTQ+

Campaign Status: Ongoing

The BC Youth Council recognizes that the LGBTQ+ community is underrepresented and subject to discrimination on a regular basis, which is why we created the LGBTQ+ campaign. Our current goal as a campaign is to pass a conversion therapy ban in BC. The campaign is organized into teams that work together to further and complete our goals.

Mental Health

Campaign Status: Ongoing

The Mental Health campaign first involved spreading awareness about mental health, and ways for people to prioritize and generate their own happiness. Later, they moved on to focusing on providing mental health guest speakers to join us on webinars every two weeks, to impart their wisdom. Currently, the campaign is sending proposals to politicians and schools to see if there is an opportunity for further implementation of mental health exercises. It is important for students to replenish their mind and body and that is why this campaign is important to BCYC.

Student Reps

Campaign Status: Ongoing

Student Reps is a campaign that aims to have accurate student representation in every school district in British Columbia. We aim to reach our goal by talking with politicians, such as MLAs, school board trustees, and district staff. We want to talk about the importance of student trustees and the issue of student representation in British Columbia.
